I worked at Target and got the same treatment, my boss, who I was actually friends with before he moved up, said that I did everything exactly how I was supposed to but that I didn’t show a team playing mentality because I often wouldn’t come in on my days off. I felt for him because I think he was expected by higher-ups to grade people who didn’t constantly cover call-outs lower scores. I mean, fuck this and fuck them, but the story is bad enough without the added hyperbole. Most employment agreements contain a thing like “If we don’t know why you are absent from work AND we can’t reach you for 72 hours then that means you quit.” It’s actually really helpful for small businesses, but it’s soooo ripe for abuse by big companies.
